So I thought I would be the coolest Mommy EVER and I bought my little babies some Easter stuff (belated, but I got it) including 2 bunnies with super soft white hair. Since I wanted to be cool and remembered for all time as the “rockin” Momma, I decided to dye the stuffed bunnies “razorback red” because my children are obsessed with the AR Razorback college football team. (My 6yr old son wants to play and 4yr old daughter wants to be cheerleader).
I went out and got some red Rit dye and soaked the bunnies in it.. here is the picture proof… as you can see, soft bunny hair is NOT retaining the red dye very well and is thereby making me ANGRY. I rotated and soaked these guys for a long time!
After intense soaking, I rinsed them and found that the only areas that took the “true color” of the dye was where there was a “cotton” type fabric and their little tags. This is them drying:
As you can clearly see… they are FAR from red. Grrrrrrrr (that is me unhappy). Even their carrots retained their original color which I figured for sure would have been greatly discolored. So now I must take my
unhappy butt back down to Michaels or some other hobby shop and look for fabric dye. I need these bunnies to at least be some shade of red… or I am going to flip out.
Anyone have experience with dying fabric?? I have dyed clothes and jeans without problem but this soft bunny hair is going to have me pulling my hair out. If all else fails, maybe hair dye isn’t a bad idea… LOL.
p.s. No bunnies were injured or traumatized during this small project. ♥
